International Wetland City

GGTC is committed to promoting more Chinese cities to join the international wetland city network and providing full support for this. The award of the International Wetland City is based on the “Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, Especially as Waterfowl Habitats”, jointly assessed and certified by the International Wetland Organization and the State Forestry and Grassland Administration of China. The United Nations Sustainable Development Demonstration Community is assessed and certified by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in conjunction with the national civil affairs department, housing and urban-rural construction departments.

GGTC maintains close cooperation with the National Forestry and Grass Administration, the International Wetland Organization, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The current chief scientist of the project, Professor Ren Wenwei, is an associate professor of Fudan University, a review member of the International Wetland Network, and a species scientist of the World Wide Fund for Nature.
